Many people have been coming to me lately with the same question: “I have this blockage and I can’t
seem to move past it. Is it me or is something stopping me?” I have even asked this question in my own life. And the short answer? Its you. Now, before you take offense to that, hear me out. This is an issue we all face and there is a way to move passed it. We are taught from a very early age to want the quick fix. The instant gratification. Unfortunately, it does not quite work like that, in this case anyways. Depending on how big or small the blockage is that you are wanting to move passed, it is going to take some time, work and the need to dive deeply into yourself to not only see the block, and also to move through it. There is not a magic formula that will suddenly teleport you on the other side. Ok maybe there is a magic formula but it is going to take some patience and time to get to the other side. Everyone’s journey through the block is going to be different. That being said, there are a few things that we can all do to get started on that healing journey. 1. Meditation Meditation is an important part of moving through any blockage. You don’t have to sit contorted for hours at a time in silence though! Meditation can take many forms! Meditation can be a quiet walk in nature, it can be reading a book, doing your favorite craft. You can even sit and stare at a candle flame. Doing anything that gives you some time to yourself, that helps to calm your mind, and gets you away from electronics and allows you to feel your own energy instead of the outside world, can be considered meditation. 2. Emotions
This one is probably the most important part of moving through any blockage. And, can be the most difficult for people. Feeling your emotions. Most of us (myself included) do not like having to feel the feels, as they say. The stuck emotions are actually what are causing the blockage in the first place. One exercise that I will always give my clients in the first wee we are working together when they come to me for coaching, is the anger challenge (aka anger work). I have done this challenge every day for a month straight. This was the first homework that my own coach gave me to when we started working together well. And I had a really hard time with it when I first started. I gave her every excuse in the book not to do it because I was so terrified of feeling my own emotions. I would have rather concentrate on everyone else’s emotions then my own. - You will need a journal and a pillow. (The pillow is to be used for this exercise only. I had one client sleep with her pillow once and she had intense dreams all night about fighting with people.) - Set a timer on your phone for 2 minutes. Then beat the living day lights out of that pillow for 2 full minutes. Get any and all anger and frustrations out. If emotions start to surface, allow them. And keep beating the pillow. Once the timer goes off set the timer again for 3 minutes and grab your journal. Write in your journal whatever comes up. Even if you are writing how much you hate this exercise, it does not matter what you write, as long as you write something. When the 3-minute timer goes off, if you feel like you still want to write then continue writing until you feel you are done. - I suggest doing this exercise for 2 weeks straight, every single day. It is only 5 minutes of your day. So, there is no excuse not to do it. I have seen some amazing blockages being cleared form doing this exercise alone.
